Forget the super expensive awesome blanket we bought him he wanted a $7 throw from Walmart. Well we had some successes and some failures. (She claims she is happy with the failures and got compliments on them but I hate them so I’m working on a redo. )

Well one of our successful projects was a menu / schedule board. She’s using it as a menu now but I’m gonna make her a nifty one that will go on her fridge and then she can use this as a schedule/week planner.

I have seen these going around all over blog land where you turn a old picture frame into a dry erase board. But I have to say the one we drew the most inspiration from is over at Chistina's Adventures ! Hers turned out just gorgeous !!

Click on the pic to go to her original post for the tutorial since I only have a finished project picture to show of ours. And while you’re there check out some of her other stuff… She is incredibly talented !! I have sooo enjoyed following her blog as we have similar taste. Plus I have to love anyone who wants to make lists beautiful ! (HERE is my attempt to make beautiful lists.)

My sister is going to use hers as a schedule planner and has a serious bare wall problem. She lives in an apartment and can’t paint so we are filling her walls with colorful things both functional decor and purely decorative items. This is one of the functional decor items obviously! I have been teaching her that in small spaces (which is her whole place) you make functional items decorate and vice versa. SO anyway… said all that to say this one will be hanging on the wall not in a neat bookstand like Christina’s. Shay’s colors in her living spaces are creamy beige, black and a rusty barn red. GORGEOUS !!! She is nice blend of modern and classic/traditional.

I went out to find a frame. Shay and Hubby have only been married and had their own place 2 years so she doesn’t have a store built up like some of us. She and I both went thrifting separately and couldn’t find anything. I was at Fred’s looking for something else when in their damaged goods clearance aisle I found an awesome frame. It retailed for $20 at the original store (Fred’s does some closeouts) and was $10 at Fred’s. Then after being damaged in Fred’s was only $3 !! SCORE !!! It was very Shay looking too !! I couldn’t find any damage but a neighbor pointed out that it was originally made to hang or stand and the “stand arm” had been ripped off. SO WHAT we’re hanging it !! I picked out scrapbook paper in her colors and a pattern I thought she’d like, some swirly black letter stickers and went to work ! Here is our finished board…

I love the detail on the frame !! I have bought so many white boards here lately I had TONS of markers and the little things you use to hook them on the boards so I gave her a set and now her marker is always right there ! It’s a clear plastic grip so it looks like the marker is floating .

Well that’s one of our successes. I’m going to try to get more posted throughout the week. But things are crazy here. I’ll share more on that later too.

Peace

Steph

Linking to…
Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-81890911334804045372010-09-16T11:33:00.001-04:002010-09-16T11:33:51.702-04:00We have a new family member…
Rew is 4 years old. He has sucked his finger since he was 4 months. I have tried EVERYTHING to get him to stop nothing worked, UNTIL last weekend that is. Last weekend we went to the pet store to get some supplies and show Monkey all the animals. (we haven’t been to this particular pet store in awhile, it’s one that has animals in it) Well they host a few animal shelter animals. As my husband was playing with some tiny kittens in a top cage An older kitten grabbed Andrew’s pant leg from the bottom cage and started playing with him. It was so cute how they interacted and Rew declared he needed a kitty to be his friend while Bub’s at school. We not wanting to add to the menagerie or deal with the insane adoption process of this particular shelter (seriously it would be easier to adopt a child) told him only IF or when he stopped sucking his finger would he be big enough to handle the responsibility of his own kitty. He came home wrapped transformer band aids around his index fingers and went all day without sucking them. Then all night as well. That shocked us. I figured at night he would relapse as you don’t realize what you’re doing in your sleep. Oh no he wanted his kitty soooo bad that he clutched his blanky in his balled up fists and tucked them between his chin and chest. I checked on him thru the night when I got up with the baby and he stayed that way all night. That is some SERIOUS will power. My husband decided that such will power deserved immediate reward so the next morning we headed to an animal shelter to begin our search for Rew’s friend. We did not just want to go grab a kitten we wanted to find Andrew’s buddy. At the first shelter we stopped at the coolest kitten chose Rew. From the minute we walked into the cat room he followed Rew occasionally meowing and always trying to get his attention. After 10 minutes of playing on the floor with several kittens Rew stood up and pronounced the “shadow” as trhe one saying “this is him, this my friend kitty”. So we adopted the little grey and white tabby with beautifully unique markings ( I was so happy he didn’t pick some strange looking alley cat) When we got to the car Rew put on his orange collar and announced his kitty’s fave color was also orange just like him.

The kitten insisted on riding with his boy

And Rew shared his blanky and they snuggled. They sleep together, (Yoshi has an orange blanket on Rew’s bed) play together and Yoshi shadows him everywhere. Yoshi hangs out in the boys room with Rew instead of insisting on being in the living room like I was afraid he would. They truly are buddies. Yesterday I went in the bathroom and as Rew hopped off the potty Yoshi came out of the covered litter box. I had to laugh. They really do everything together. Rew still has not sucked his finger in almost a week!! He is totally responsible for feeding and watering Yoshi and does an excellent job of it. I am soooo proud !!

So there is the scoop on our new family member and the story of how I FINALLY got Rew to stop sucking his finger !!

Peace

Steph
Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-41078718898685065272010-09-07T21:40:00.001-04:002010-09-07T21:40:57.823-04:00Boys Room Furniture Re-do
I have to say I was so excited to see this party over at The Thrifty Home ! It’s a Refinished Furniture Party !!! I have actually been doing a lot of this in my boys new room. I’ve never been very good at it before but this time something just clicked and I am proud to show these pieces off ! I have one more shelf to finish but it will not be done in time to get into this party so here’s what I have !!

When My oldest was ready to move up from toddler bed to big boy bed we found this at a yard sale and got it for a steal !!!

I LOVED this bed !!!! It was so neat with so much potential but when my 2 oldest needed to start rooming together in a TINY little room we needed bunk beds. BUT with hubby unemployed at the time I had to resort to craigslist bartering. After a week I traded the really cool bed (that it killed me to part with) for these…

And yes my boys are typical messy boys. I KNOW you can see the toys everywhere don’t pretend you can’t. We all know they’re there. LOL…

Anyway…the bunk beds remained as they were until we decided to do the room swap/ redo. Now I want all the furniture to match/blend. Yay it’s time for my fave thing, PAINT !!!!! I love how a simple coat of paint can breathe new life into any tired old thing. (kinda like taking a shower and shaving your legs can make you feel like a new woman after a hair raising day with your kids. I have 3 boys I KNOW these things.) I broke out the sand paper and roughed my surface a bit and then started priming…

And after the priming and 2 coats of white satin paint I realized the red dinosaur stamp treatment that my 4 year old had so generously given the side rails was bleeding thru no matter what I did. On to plan B. I sanded the side rails back down and “colored” the rails. Orange on the bottom for Rew and blue on the top for Bub. Then the safety rail got a coat of dark blue paint. Now we have this…

It took 4 coats to get that orange right… Orange is just as bad as red when trying to get an even true shade. Next I added bedding and we get the finished product

Yes my boys are still messy, we haven’t gotten to the organization stage yet or the floor scrubbing. LOL ! There are paint splatters everywhere on the floor.

OH !! I almost forgot Rew’s FAVE part of this redo. It’s his own light and he is in charge of turning it on and off and all the other things about a tap light that would amaze a 4 yearold.

That’s my bunk bed redo. I took plain old dark wood bunk beds and made them bright cheery boyish beds that blend with their room and match their other furniture and are “color coded” with their fave colors !!

Next came the Book Shelf Re-do

My boys needed a bookshelf to free up some space on their toy shelves. Now despite the fact that my hubs and I are both big readers and my boys love books there is only one bookshelf in our house. It is a<strike>cheapo</strike> inexpensive bonus item that came with a <strike>cheapo</strike> inexpensive computer desk from Walmart. I wanted all the boys furniture in their “new room” to match / blend so again PAINT !!!!

ALL the paint in this project is left over from other projects and the shelf we’ve had for 5 years so total cost here $0. Gotta love FREE !!!

I have no before pics of the shelf. I forgot to take them in my excitement to get going. But here’s one of the side of the computer desk (still cheap and ugly… oh well that’s a project for another day) so you can get the idea of what i was working with.

Yes that’s all you get to see. The rest is HORRIBLY messy and un-organized. It doesn’t even qualify as an organized mess. When it was finally all dry and ready to go I put it all together…

And there we have it! The boys get a cool new shelf that blends with their other furniture and matches their room colors ! I <strike>covered up</strike> “made adorable” a complete eyesore. And I think it looks much better in a kids room in bright colors than in the industrial office supply look. I HATE that look. I have HATED this shelf since we got it. (still hate the matching desk. again, project for another day ) Not a bad little shelf sporting it’s new look though.

I am so happy with how these turned out !! It only cost $18.00 and other than going to get the part took 15 minutes to fix. Now how come FIL and all his “knowledge” couldn’t figure that out BEFORE i spent several hundred on a window unit ?? What was it I said in a previous post “useless and annoying waste of space”?? Oh wait I was talking about the stuffed animals ! Wink wink …

While here Huby decided to finally take my advice and stop by the staffing agency that found him his previous job and just talk to them. Well guess what I was right AGAIN !! (I’m the one who sent him in last time too) They asked what experience he had and when he told them their eyes lit up and they said they had the perfect fulltime job for him and they are desperately needing help. SO Hubby turns in the keys to this fuel guzzling monster on Thursday…

Yay ! No more absent hubby… although it will take some readjustment I’ve kinda gotten used to having less mess . LOL He has an interview on Monday and we are crossing our fingers, praying ,etc. like crazy !

I have had to halt any more room redo for the boys… I have a few projects I’ve got all the stuff for and I’ll finish those soon but I’m out of money. Hubby will be taking a pay cut and I seem to have lost my job as Diva and monster’s dad has quit and is playing stay at home dad and no one is responding to my phone calls or emails. :o( I miss my craft money.

I am however working on a project that excites me greatly I am decorating my sisters guest bath and possibly living area depending on her budget !! I am already working on some projects (in those few spare moments I find) and we head down to her apartment to decorate on Sunday !! I don’t know who is more excited her or me ! I LOVE to decorate and make beautiful ! I am taking lots of pics and will be blogging the whole thing! Check back for more in the days to come !

Bub started school and is doing pretty good. The bus comes MUCH earlier this year and we’re having some morning focus problems we are working on. I may end up driving him every morning again… there goes some blog time but oh well…

Rew is on a Harry Potter kick and has decided thats who he wants to be for halloween. We have gotten a wand and glasses…

I got reading glasses at Dollar Tree and just popped the lenses out. It took us almost 20minutes to find ones that fit him that he deemed Harry Potter worthy. Eye liner makes a great scar and I’m crocheting a scarf in Gryffindor colors. Now we just need a robe.

Monkey has made an olympic sport out of army crawling and is into EVERYTHING !! He is also learning to pull up. He fell over on a toy and got his first shiner. Yay now it looks like I beat him. I get many odd looks in public. There are the Moms who nod and grin like “oh yeah I’ve got boys I remember that stage” and the people with no kids who look at me like I deserve bad parent of the year. Whatever… Monkey has also outgrown ALL his clothes again. YAY more shopping !! I bought a few things to get us thru til I have my yard sale and I can do some big time shopping.

Speaking of big time shopping, I went to Osh Kosh and got Bub’s entire fall wardrobe. The deals I got were unbelievable !!! I’ll post on them this week too !

I’ve done several small projects while absent that I’ll also be blogging as soon as I can so keep checking back. Now that I’m here I have plenty to blog…

Peace

Steph
Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-77832750034882312382010-08-20T19:04:00.001-04:002010-08-20T19:05:35.851-04:00Where I’ve been…
Sorry I’ve been gone without a word although I doubt I was missed very much since I’m still a very small fish in a very large pond…

I was just going to take last week off. Bub’s first week of school and my vacation week. I was hoping to do some catching up around here and focus on getting back into the school routine.

BUT then on Friday last my AC went out. This is the hottest summer we’ve had in years and I have an 8 month old baby and my husband is only home 3 days a month… THIS IS SO NOT THE TIME for my Ac to die !!! SO we have been living in the master suite with a window unit and just running out to the fridge and microwave waiting on my hubby to get home. He is back and we think we know what the problem is and are working on fixing it. I hope to be back in blog land on Tuesday when he heads back out on the road.

I am sooooo glad I re did the master suite and moved the boys in there. It has made this whole experience easier and of all the rooms in the house to be locked in at least it’s the one that looks like it belongs in a magazine! Not to brag or anything but it is sooo nice in there !!

All right well I’ve breathed in all the hot air I can stand for now so I’m heading back to the bedroom. See everyone Tuesday !!
Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-87322543437846445802010-08-07T10:17:00.001-04:002010-08-07T10:18:56.920-04:00Sooo it’s Saturday…
Well today is going to be more focused on the family part of my blog than the crafty. I’m still working on finishing up my cleaning… I hope to be back to my projects on Monday.

We are teething here… Well Monkey is but we all feel his pain. I have been using Hyland's Teething Tablets. They are fabulous !!

We do the usual Motrin at night but the biggest life saver has been that I FINALLY found a teether that works. None of my children have ever used a teether. Each baby I spend about 20 bucks on various teethers (they always like them in the store they’re bored LOL ) plus they have the ones from the baby before them. The only thing they end up using is Mommy and Daddy’s fingers. (They prefer mommy’s due to size) OUCH ! And not very sanitary.

Well Nuby's Natural Touch line has made the PERFECT teether for all those parents with fingers only kids like mine.

See the hand looking ones ?? They ROCK out loud. Monkey has been my worst fingers only baby. NOTHING but fingers and occasionally binky goes in his mouth. Well he LOVES this teether. It closely mimics real fingers in size and shape and is soft yet firm like a finger ! Each finger tip has a different design for a varied texture to teeth on. It also kinda works like those little “tooth and gum brushes” you can buy to slip on your finger tip. The texture is about the same and so after those pearly whites get here baby can chew away to keep them clean ! It is the perfect size and shape to get in there and do the job teething or other wise !! I found mine at Target and they are NOT with the toys. They hang with the pacifiers and come in a great plastic carrying case !

Well I’m gonna go clean some more and try to ignore all my crafts and projects screaming at me from my craft corner. I’ve also gotta do a TON of laundry and get together all Bub’s clothes to prepare for starting school on Monday. Where did the summer go ??

It’s gorgeously sunny here in Ga but HOT so I’ll be enjoying from the window as the pool is still not usable UGH!! Enjoy this Saturday everyone and I hope yours is as beautiful as mine.

Peace

Steph

I’ll be hopping around here today during my breaks !!

Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-23084057490636007982010-08-06T11:09:00.001-04:002010-08-06T11:09:11.326-04:00It’s Friday !!!
Ok I’m almost caught up on my cleaning and I should be back to my room redo and crafty projects soon. That’s good cause I’m having withdraw symptoms in the worst way…

Here are a few things I thought I’d share today just some totally random thoughts…

We had open house yesterday at BCPS. I am so excited about Bubs teacher this year ! I think it is going to be an ideal match for him.

Rew is angry that he doesn’t have a class but would refuse to go every day if he did. He just wanted a welcome goody bag at open house. That’s a 4 year old for you.

I have a new hair do and color and let me tell you I feel like a brand new woman. Actually I dyed my hair back closer to it’s more natural shade and added caramel highlights. Ok when I say “I” I actually mean my sister did. I have a great little Sis who is a cosmetologist and she rocks !! Thanks Susan ! Hopefully I can change my profile pic soon that one is from when I was preggers, so very old.

I find it absolutely hilarious that my soon to be 8 year old is no longer eating chips due to the fact that “they build bad cholesterol that will clog my arteries like blocked up pipes and I will die a horrible heart attack” and that was a direct quote. My other sis who is a dietician would be sooo proud !

I am going crazy trying to clean, organize, babysit, finish the bedroom re do, finish projects, Keep the dog from destroying everything I own and the cat from tormenting her , birthday shop, get Bub back to school including finding a Pokemon back pack which NO ONE is selling except Toys R US and then only online ), keep the finances and pay all bills by myself and just find time to breathe. I am soooo looking forward to my “vacation” week next week. The Monster and The Diva will be home with their daddy next week since he is in for a break . (he drives a truck like my hubby)

Speaking of , I miss mine ( my hubby) … a LOT… like a TON !! I can’t wait til the 19th when he should be home. I have got to find him a local job this trucking thing really sucks. Big time.

My Ugly Monster Doll thing for Rew was such a success that I now have 3 to make for other people. I am NOT including the inside pocket on those I am keeping them easy.

Now here are a few “bloggy” things I thought I’d pass on Keen Inspirations has a new feature going on its called News Flash Friday. It’s really cool newsletter type post where she passes on anything she ran across thru the week that caught her eye from projects to new blog hops to giveaways. And speaking of giveaways she has one of those going on right now too. Its a $45 gift card to CSN stores !! I know we would all like to win one of those !

And here are the hops and parties I’m participating in today… at some point… I have already linked up to some and as I get my “breaks” will sit down and finish linking up to and exploring others !! Happy Blog Hopping to all this fine Friday !!

Peace

Steph

Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-62271927730160629722010-08-02T13:23:00.001-04:002010-08-06T10:26:49.071-04:00Bookshelf re-do
My boys needed a bookshelf to free up some space on their toy shelves. Now despite the fact that my hubs and I are both big readers and my boys love books there is only one bookshelf in our house. It is a <strike>cheapo</strike> inexpensive bonus item that came with a <strike>cheapo</strike> inexpensive computer desk from Walmart.

You can see it seeping into the picture in the upper right corner. paper work, envelopes, bills etc. LOL ! But you get the ugly silver-grey metal tubing and ugly black MDF shelving and desk top. But I put a halt on all crafty and remodel projects to finish up my cleaning projects in the lower floor of my house. The part we live in the most and people see ! I had to make an exception today though.

My four year old has a blankey. His name is “Keys”. Short for blanKEY add an S. I have NO idea where the S came from. He goes every where with us and as Rew’s best friend shares many adventures and endures much abuse. He is 4 years old and LITERALLY falling apart. At the seams, not at the seams …EVERYWHERE !! I had to put yet another patch on him yesterday and so today Rew was extremely upset that “keys” needs to be safe but if he’s safe on the bed he can’t be with him. (we already leave “keys” at home when we go out now.)

Rew is also obsessed with these “Ugly Doll” things. I think they’re cute and the story of how they started is adorable and sweet BUT I don’t have 20- 50 dollars to spend on a stuffed piece of fabric. They are so simple it’s unreal what people are paying for them. Well I decided to try my hand at making Rew an Ugly Doll type monster. Now I brainstormed a step further. I need to rig a pocket of some sort, some where attatched to this monster to hold “Keys”. If you’re not getting all fancy like me with the pocket these things are E-A-S-Y !!

Here goes…

Step 1. You need to start with a piece of fabric of any kind twice the size you want your doll to be. You can use anything. An old tshirt, sweatshirt, a towel, a blanket. I bought an unbelievably soft micro plush blanket in Rew’s fave color orange !! This came out of the room redo budget. And I have plans for the left over blanket. (throw pillows anyone ??) But the blanket was only $7 at Walmart. It was cheaper than fleece fabric (at $7.48 a yard) and softer.

Step 2. Next you need a piece of paper big enough to accommodate the size of your doll. Start by sketching out the basic shape you want your monsters body to be. We are making a pattern here people so it needs to be actual size. Be sure and leave room at the edges for adding ears, horns, arms, legs etc. Once you’ve decided exactly what shape you want all these to have add them to your pattern drawing. It should be all one piece. You'll see in a second… It does NOT have to be perfect. that’s the appeal of these little guys. They’re wacky looking. Mine has 2 big ears , one arm down and one up waving, and legs with feet toes pointing in per my 4 year olds requests. He also is not perfectly symmetrical and I made his face a little off center.

Step 3.Take your fabric fold it in half (or big enough to lay your pattern on. My blanket was so big I only had to make a small fold in one corner !) Make sure you fold the side you want showing on the inside. You want the inside of your fabric on the outside right now so your seams are hidden nicely by turning it right side out later… Lay out your pattern and pin in place…. Like so…

Step 4. Now you just need to sew around the edges. If you have a sewing machine this is fairly quick… I do not so I stitched this by hand and I went around twice. (it’s going to belong to a 4 year old boy. It MUST be sturdy) It took forever !!!! Don’t forget to leave an opening to turn it right side out and stuff it.

Step 5. Now CAREFULLY cut around the outside edge of your seam (s) to remove all excess fabric. Working with the micro plush was messy since once you cut it it starts to shed. UGGHH !! you can also remove your pattern.

Step 6. We now turn the shape right side out and if your monster is very small you can use the eraser end of a pencil to push all the arms legs etc. all the way out. My monster is BIG !

Step 7. You’re almost done ! Now you get to stuff it… If you’ve been at the crafting longer than me and have a better stock or just sew projects a lot ( I do NOT as evidenced by my lack of sewing machine) you may have fiber fill around. As you may have guessed I didn’t. SO thrifty me GUTTED a giant (useless) Easter bunny. My children get several stuffed animals a piece every Easter from paternal grands. I find them a useless and annoying waste of space. (the stuffed animals I mean ) I have boys so after 2 days so do they. Needless to say this bunny donated to my cause nicely.

Step 8. After stuffing to desired firmness stitch up the gap you left open to stuff.

Step 9. Last one ! Now the fun part ! Give your guy or gal a face and add decorations ! I cut out white felt circles and stitched around the outer edge in black thread then sewed a big black dot in the center for a pupil. My son favored the original Ugly Doll looking eye balls. Anything works here though buttons are a cool idea !! So are wiggly eyes ! You can stitch a mouth with embroidery floss but not having any I did this in black felt. I cut teeth from white felt and sewed it all together and then stitched it on. We also put a big green and orange button in his hand that says Friends Forever ! Rew is flirting with the idea of adding little tiny button “polka dots” all over. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a NO.

So now YOU’RE done…

I’m crazy I added a few extra steps in there on mine. 1. I sewed a pocket. 2. I did not leave a hole for turning and stuffing. I cut a slit in his back. I turned and stuffed and sewed one edge of the pocket to the slit and then the other side as well then punched the pocket in and made a pocket space inside the monsters stomach (but the stuffing cannot escape !) 3. Then I sewed on a flap to cover the entrance to the pocket and applied velcro dots to keep it closed. 4. Then I added buttons on top for decor. We put “Keys” inside his new safe hide out and left the tags hanging out the flap cause Rew likes to rub them as he falls asleep. He likes the silky feeling.

1. 2.

3.4.

NOW I’m done too ! Well here is why

Yes, Hubby came home. He brought his truck this time for the boys to see cause for various reasons he now leases the truck and has a little more freedom. It was nice to have him home and we stayed pretty busy with family time and outfitting the new truck.

While he was here we headed out shopping. When we got to Target I couldn’t help myself. After the great disappointment of finding the adorable little green monster nightlight I so <strike>coveted</strike> NEEDED for my boys room GONE I still had to wander thru the home decor dept. Not to buy things mind you, to <strike>steal ideas</strike> err… be inspired !

I had no problem finding a small 11” x 14” super hero poster a few weeks ago for the “head board” of Rew’s bunkbed.. It came folded in a coloring book. Bub wanted a Pokemon one and he wanted it to be more of a character gallery than “art”. I could not find anything that fit the bill. Even on Ebay.

Anyway… back to the Target outing… As I turned into what I promised my hubby would be the last aisle I looked in Bub was chattering in my ear about his Pokemon cards (and why I should possibly , maybe buy him more today) and I saw the answer to my problem. There was a nifty black frame with pockets for framing collectible cards. They had fake baseball cards in theirs but with the constant stream of Pokemon chatter running thru my head guess where my mind jumped ?? Yep ! BUT the price on theirs was $26.99 Ummm I don’t think so ! Limited budget here ! So we left but my thrifty, crafty side of my brain was churning. I headed to the dollar store (that I can walk to from my house! Yes I am THAT LUCKY ! Go ahead , be jealous. I really don’t blame you. LOL! ) to re- examine a frame I had admired the week before. It was, if I remembered correctly very similar to the one in Target. YES !! It was very similar and I actually like it better ! I bought it for a mere 6 dollars and headed home. This is what I started with (yes I admit I forgot the before pic so I took a pick from the back ! That’s why you see some blue. Ha ha ! )

While it was drying I headed up to my storage closet dug out the OLD baseball card collection and found a card sleeve that was in really good shape. Now this sounds easy but I assure you it was not. I have not gotten to the closet on my list yet. This means you enter it with the understanding you may not make it out ! LOL!

Bub and I are already in the process of collecting his favorite Pokemon cards in holo/foil on Ebay. The same color I used on the bunk bed safety rail . I put a white background in the frame .Then I used double sided poster tape to position the card sleeve. I hung it up immediately and Bub LOVES it ! I have gotten many many hugs and multiple compliments and grateful comments from him. And that means the world to me !

This would work for any collectors card, Sports, Bella Sara, Pokemon, Yu Gi Oh!. It’s a great way to get some favorites out where they are visible all the time and SAFE ! That’s big for me the safe part. Bub has his favorites we’re in the process of collecting in holo/foil over the summer. He is a very generous, easily convinced child and I did not want him getting swindled out of them on the bus. They’re his faves and I am putting a lot of time, effort and money into collecting these specific cards on Ebay. I’ve been wondering how to keep them safe and now I’ve got a solution to that as well as the headboard/poster problem. Well I’ve got to go prime another project ! I’ll be back with more soon !!

Peace

Steph

Linked to Gettin Crafty On Hump Day @ Nikki's Nifty Knacks
Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-80271918454965378572010-07-23T15:17:00.001-04:002010-07-23T15:17:11.997-04:00HURRY, its your last chance for the giveaway !!!
Sunny over at Life In Rehab is doing a giveaway !! She comes home this evening so I should be able to share soon.

However, while we wait I just thought I’d share my experience shopping at Best Buy and warn everyone so that you don’t end up like we did. Let’s just say I will NEVER under any circumstances shop at Best Buy again. N-E-V-E-R !!

It started when we went to Best Buy last time my Husband was home. So about 3 weeks ago. He needed a TV for his truck. He wanted a flat panel cause they are space saving in such tight quarters. We headed down to Best Buy cause that’s where we buy all our electronics etc. Before my husband lost his job we were updating some appliances and my husband is a tech junkie in the worst way so I can safely say in the last 4 years we have spent SEVERAL thousand dollars there. Okay more than several … cause to me that implies 3 or less and it’s way more than that. We have been very loyal customers.

So we pick out a tv. This is after my husband spends close to an hour deliberating and only finally made a decision cause the kids ( baby included) were starting to make a ruckus due to “starvation” LOL :o) He decided to give their “in house” brand Insignia a try due to the fact that they were on sale and he could get a new LED type for the same price as other brands older LCDs. While checking out, the little teeny bopper cashier asks if we would like to purchase the protection and replacement plan. My husband looked at me to see my thoughts. Now knowing this TV is going to be traveling around in a semi tractor I grilled the girl heavily on what it would cover. She satisfactorily answered my questions and it seemed like a very good idea all things CAREFULLY considered so we paid the extra 50 bucks.

My husband left out the next day and when he got to his truck he plugged the TV up with the component cables and the whole picture had a bad blue cast to it that could not be adjusted. SO he hooked it up with the AV jacks and then noticed that only when it’s on you could see a small crack on the INSIDE of the screen. So he put it back in the box. Now you cannot just pull into a Best Buy parking lot in a semi tractor pulling a 53 foot trailer that weighs 40,000 pounds. So he had to wait 3 weeks til he had off time again.

He came in this past week as you know and we headed right out to Best Buy. He pulled the tv out of the box and unfortunately riding around in that big truck the vibrations had caused the crack to spread but it was still only on the inside. The Best Buy guy said Geek Squad had to look at it. They determined it to be “physical damage” which they do not cover. I said we were told the protection/replacement plan we purchased did indeed cover accidental physical damage. They said the cashier was mistaken. My husband told them all the problems and that it was that way straight out of the box. They said he could not prove it and should have come in sooner. Then they add that they could fix it for an additional fee. My husband said “Bull I already paid for your bogus plan that covers nothing so no way and I’m never shopping here again”. He was told it was “his problem” . We used up a gift card we had to purchase a computer game for our son ( why not use the free money) and my husband told that cashier what was going on and she said call corporate and gave him the number.

I just want to add here we were NOT asking for a refund. My husband wanted to exchange for a more expesive brand and pay the difference or even just exchange for the same thing.

We called corporate and after getting bounced around to 5 different people and departments including Insignia themselves we are now stuck with a broken useless TV and are still paying it off on the credit card :o( My husband was pissed beyond words and wanted to leave it in the parking lot I loaded it into the car and said “ARE YOU CRAZY ??? So one of those rude little geek squad losers can come out here fix it and sell it ??? NO WAY !!!

Now funny little side detail the sales guy who sold us on the TV in the first place walked by while hubby was arguing with Geek Squad. He was all smiles and asked how I was. I told him not good and started the story with the Insignia TV was broken right out of the box and now they’re not honoring the protection plan. He could NOT rush away fast enough, dragging the guy with him away at the speed of light. I found out later from hubby that they headed up to the customer service counter for a Best Buy credit application to buy a 60 inch flat panel. No wonder he didn’t want the guy to hear me.

Needless to say we will not shop at Best Buy again. EVER. NEVER NEVER NEVER EVER… PERIOD !!!!! I just wanted to share this to say Best Buy’s customer service both in store and on the phone with corporate was lousy and rude. Geek squad was condescending and rude. Insignia products seem to be cheaply made. AND most of all even if you choose shop there DON’T buy their protection plans they are a GIANT JOKE and really cover nothing !!!!!

Peace

Steph

as a disclaimer I was not asked to blog ,share or say any of this by anyone. Everything I just shared in the above post is purely my opinion on my experiences with those mentioned.
Steph @ This Organized Messhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12425554227809032533noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1218533177245166259.post-89020823422655549572010-07-03T17:08:00.001-04:002010-07-03T17:08:27.801-04:00I Promise I’m coming back soon…
Things here have been CRAZY !!! She suffers from a condition which causes her to slough off a much higher than normal amount of skin cells. Thus more shedding and dander. I also have 3 boys who suffer from skin allergies and one is a 6 month old baby who LOVES playing on the floor. Unfortunately this means Ginger must spend a lot of time outside. I live in mid Georgia and it is extremely hot and there is pretty much zero shade in our yard. All these things combined (plus the fact that she started digging a 2 foot deep hole next to our house foundation to lay in and stay cool) got me searching for a way to keep her cool. They had to be clear cause if she thinks there is something on the bottom of the pool she will NOT get in !! I took the non skid stickies and trimmed them into small pieces the same shapes as the raised bumps on the bottom of the pool. Then I coated the bottom of them with pool repair kit adhesive to give them extra strong stickability LOL ! I stuck them on and when she does her super dog flying leaps into the water she doesn’t slip and go down. So far they are holding up well !! I was determined to do so even while working on my VERY LIMITED budget.

I went with a jungle /safari animal theme and made most of the stuff myself. Here is the Large canvas I painted for one of my taller walls. I started with a blank 16x20 inch canvas that was already primed white. Sorry no pic cause I was not aware I’d be blogging at the time. LOL

Then I drew my Giraffe in pencil where I wanted him on the canvas. I put a G in the lower left corner to make it match a set of 4 smaller canvases I had done for another wall. (I’ll blog those another time) and it still needed something so I added tree limbs in the upper right corner. This is what I ended up with

Sorry it’s hard to see but it is pencil… So finished with my drawing I started painting. My wonderful hubby picked the most fabulous yellow for me. It was perfect “giraffe yellow” LOL !! The blues and greens were left over nursery paint any other colors or shades I mixed myself. As I finished I realized it needed something more if it was going to blend with the other canvas set I made. My nursery “designs” were stripes and polka dots. I went with polka dots on this canvas to off set the length of the giraffes neck. So now the finished product is this…

I am very happy with it finished and am proud to show it off. Start to finish this only took me 2 hours including dry times !! Now I am sharing this at DillyDally and Flitter for Just Something I Whipped up Monday !!

Check out all the neat stuff everyone is whipping up and share the comment love.
